Q1What do the Search Zip Code and Radius features do on the myGame page?

A1 :  The "Search Zip Code" will populate the "Find Other Players", "Club News", "Upcoming Events", "My Events" and "Weather" modules with applicable public content from eClubhouse sites within the radius mileage distance selected the center point of the Zip Code you provide. The default radius distance is one (1) mile.

The Zip Code can be changed when planning a golfing vacation to find out news and events from the area you are visiting. Connect with a golfer from the area and meet up for a round of golf!

To change the Search Zip Code and populate your dashboard with content from another area, simply click the numerical Zip Code (located above the USGA Handicap Index module). Enter the new Zip Code and press "Submit". When you return from your trip - just change it back to your local Zip Code!

You can change the radius (i.e. reduce or increase the range of news/events) by using the radius drop-down box and modifying the setting.

Q2In the "Statistics" view of the myGame page, I can't get results for any of the ESC scores I posted. I do get a message telling me that I haven't posted HBH Rounds - is this required to use the Statistics feature?

A2 : Yes, Hole-By-Hole rounds are used to create the graphs used in the "Statistics" view of myGame. If you are seeing the following message it means that the "Statistics" module can't find any data to create the graph:

"You have not posted any Hole-by-hole (HBH) rounds. To use the reporting feature, rounds should be added in HBH format."

To post rounds for statistical purposes, click on "myStats Scores" within your myGame page. If you have already posted a score online or via your club computer, simply uncheck "Do you want this score routed to your GHIN handicap record?" so a duplicate score isn't sent to GHIN.

Q3Can I still post my scores online & lookup my Handicap Index via the new GHIN.com Website without signing up for eGolfer?

A3 :  Yes. All of the functionality from the old GHIN.com Website is still available. You do not have to sign up for eGolfer to access these services.

To post a score online, click on "POST SCORES " from the top navigation bar. To perform a Handicap Lookup, click on "HANDICAP LOOKUP" from the top navigation bar.

Handicap Lookup

Q1When accessing Handicap Lookup on GHIN.com via a Quick Link, Bookmark or link from a GHIN Association Web site, the following error occurs.

Status : 502 Bad GatewayDescription

The origin web server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request. Please try your request again.

A1 :  The bookmarked Web page may have the incorrect URL. The correct URL is noted below. Notice that "lookups" is plural. In the old address it was singular. You can also access Handicap Lookup from the GHIN.com Homepage.

http://www.ghin.com/lookups/index.html

Q2There is an "Used" column with asterisks on my scoring record.  What do those mean?

A2 :  The asterisk in the "Used" column indicates a score that has been included as one of the scores in the calculation of your Handicap Index® at the last revision.  This is based on a term called "handicap differential" that takes into account the USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating– it is not just based on raw score.

Q3What are all the letter "I" denotations on my scoring record?

A3 :  These are in the Type column and denote a score posted via the Internet.  This allows for monitoring of Internet scores, just like an "A" denotes "Away" scores and "T" denotes "Tournament" scores.

Q4 When I tried to look up my handicap today, I received a response of, "GHIN Number not found."  I checked the number from my card and it is the correct number.  Is there something wrong?

A4 :  Many clubs "inactivate" their rosters when a new season or year starts.  This prevents the club from accidentally being billed for someone who is not returning to the club this year/season.  Most often, a visit to your club and payment of membership fees for this year/season will get the ball rolling.  The club will then activate your record.  As stated in an earlier question, until the club transmits this activation, your record will not be available on GHIN.com.

Q5 I found my record and my Handicap Index® .  I am playing a course today with a different Slope Rating.  How can I figure out my Course Handicap for that round?

A5 :  Click on the "Course Handicap Calculator" link at the bottom left of your scoring record.  Input your Handicap Index® and Slope Rating. Click "Calculate Course Handicap" and your Course Handicap for that set of tees will appear.

If you do not know the Course Rating and Slope Rating of where you are going to play, click here to look it up on the National Course Rating Database.

Q6Does GHIN.com allow me to look up a Handicap Index® for anyone in the country who has a Handicap Index®?

A6 :  No. There are many computation services assisting in the issuance of a Handicap Index® .  The GHIN database is comprised of golfers using the GHIN service.

Q7 :  I posted a score online today, but went to GHIN.com and could not see that score. What happened?

A7 :  The initial Handicap lookup screen is a snapshot tied to a revision date - that screen will not show recently posted scores. However, if you click on the image link entitled "View 20 Most Recent" just above your scoring record, you will see a snapshot of what is in the database at this moment. The score that you posted online should appear there.

Q8I posted at my club or I posted at another club that I played yesterday. I cannot see my score on GHIN.com, even in the "view 20 most recent" section. What happened?

A8 :  Until a club transmits the score from a PC, that score is not in the GHIN database. Once it is transmitted to the GHIN database it will appear in the "20 Most Recent Scores" area.

Q9I have been told by my club that after I post five scores I will have a Handicap Index® . I posted five scores online this morning, but my Handicap Index® did not appear or change - is there something wrong?

A9 :  A Handicap Index® is only revised according to a revision schedule determined by the regional golf association. Your Handicap Index® will not change until the next revision.

Q10Our revision date was August 12. I posted 8 scores online on August 11. These did not impact my Handicap Index® - why?

A10 :  There is a little time window between the cutoff for scores counting toward the upcoming Handicap Index® and the effective revision date. This window is so that a Handicap Index® can be revised, reports printed and mailed and received by the clubs. For those areas where printed reports are not mailed from New Jersey, the time window is only overnight, thus scores posted to the database up until approximately 10:00 PM Eastern Standard Time will count in the handicap revision effective the next day.

Q11I am a member of a golf club and posted scores online through GHIN.com. The last time I posted this way was a few months ago. When I tried to look up my handicap today, I received a response of, "GHIN Number not found." I checked the number from my card and it is the correct number. Is there something wrong?

A11 :  Many clubs "inactivate" their rosters when a new season or year starts.

Q12Can I still post my scores online & lookup my Handicap Index via the new GHIN.com Website without signing up for eGolfer?

A13 :  Yes.

Online Posting

Q1 :  I am using Windows XP (Service Pack 2), why can't I access some of the features like "Post Online" from the GHIN.com Web site?

A1 :  Windows XP SP2 is identifying some GHIN.com screens as Pop-Ups and therefore denying access. Some of the features on GHIN.com open in a new browser window. SP2 will not open it because it thinks it is a pop-up, even though the user initiated it. Post Online, and some other features on GHIN.com, was designed this way so when the user compleses a given task and closes the window, he/she will still be logged into GHIN.com

To Change Pop-up Blocker settings:

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  • If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific Web site, type the address (or URL) of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add.

TIP: To temporarily allow a site to display pop-ups, click the Information Bar when it notifies you that a pop-up has been blocked. Then click Temporarily Allow Pop-ups. To get more information about how to configure the Pop-up Blocker Settings visit the Microsoft website

Q2 I was newly added to my club and the club transmitted to GHIN. Should I be able to post scores online?

A2 : If the data has been transmitted, your record has been sent to GHIN and you should be able to post online.  However, just because your information has been sent to GHIN, does not guarantee that you can post scores online.  Each golf club independently makes the decision as to whether its members may post online.  If you get the message, "Not a member of a club that allows Internet Posting",  your club has either decided not to accept scores online or has done nothing to activate that feature.  If the club wants to allow Internet Posting, it needs to notify the regional golf association from which it receives the GHIN service.

Q3I just entered a score online, but I made a mistake. Can GHIN fix it?

A3 :  No. Your golf club oversees your scoring record and Handicap Index® . If you make a mistake, you need to contact a representative from your club to correct the error.

Q4Can I still post my scores online & lookup my Handicap Index via the new GHIN.com Website without signing up for eGolfer?

Q1My club recently assigned me a GHIN number. Should I be able to see my Handicap Index® and/or post online immediately?

A1 :  The club may not have submitted the data or "transmitted" it to the GHIN database.  It is somewhat like a check, which has not been cashed yet. If the club has not transmitted the data to GHIN, accessing GHIN.com will not result in any success.

Q2The club did transmit my data in the above scenario.  Should I be able to see my Handicap Index® ?

A2 :  Your Handicap Index® is updated according to a revision schedule set by the regional golf association in your area.  The general handicap lookup is a snapshot of scores that were in your scoring record prior to that effective revision date.  So, if you were added on June 10, but the last revision in your area was June 5, then no Handicap Index® will appear on GHIN.com until after the next revision, but recently posted scores can be accessed via the "View 20 Most Recent" link.

Q3 :  I was newly added to my club and the club transmitted to GHIN.  Should I be able to post scores online?

A3 :  If the data has been transmitted, your record has been sent to GHIN and you should be able to post online.

General Web site Questions

Q1 I don't see the "Post Scores " link at the top of the GHIN.com Web site. It appears like there are actually three places where links should be displaying. The links I see are "Handicap Lookup", "Latest News" and "GHIN.com FAQ's".

A1 : Typically if a user has ZoneAlarm installed, the buttons indicated as being absent are removed from the screen by the program. The missing buttons (Post Scores, E-mail Addresses and Ratings Lookup) link to features that open in a pop-up window. This issue may not be isolated to the ZoneAlarm product, so if another Firewall or security program is installed following these steps may help in those cases as well.

To enable the "POST Scores " and additional options, follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Select Tools and then Internet Options
  3. Select the Security Tab
  4. Select the Trusted Sites icon in the box labeled "Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings".
  5. Press the "Sites" button
  6. In the box labeled "Add this Web site to the zone:" type: "mt5493.ghinconnect.com"
  7. Click Add.
  8. Then click OK

The mt5493.ghinconnect.com Web site is now a trusted site and you should be able to access the missing features on GHIN.com.

Q3 : I try and access certain functions of GHIN.com, but I get a message of "This page cannot be displayed." What is happening?

A3 : There is a small probability that the site is down for a short time. More than likely, you may be blocked from accessing the site. Many companies have filters prohibiting access to certain Web sites. The service provider you use may also have its own filters. Last, but not least, some folks forget to type in "www" before the URL when trying to get to the site.

Q4 : Can I post my score online at GHIN.com if my club does not use GHIN?

A4 : No. The GHIN database is comprised of golfers that use the GHIN service. You may be able to post your score online, but not via this site.

Q5 : If I have any problem with the GHIN service, whom do I contact?

A5 : Your golf club receives the GHIN service from a regional golf association. If your golf club cannot answer your question, you should contact the regional golf association. Web sites of these regional golf associations can be accessed here.

Q6 : Is there any written material on the Internet regarding USGA Handicap System policy?

A6 : The entire content of the The USGA Handicap System manual is located in the Handicap Section of the USGA Web site at: http://www.usga.org./playing/handicaps/manual/manual.html.

Q7 : Where can I find my association's revision schedule?

A7 : A link to association revision schedules can be found in the right column in the "Related Links" section on every page within the GHIN.com website.
